HONOLULU (KHNL) -- If you have a broken iPod or cell phone, instead of throwing it out, now you can get cash for them through a web-based business. It's all started by a Hawaii-born business man, who's giving electronics a second life. 25-year-old Brett Mosley has no electrical background but that did not stop him from embarking on one of the most successful online electronic repair businesses. Mosley knew he ventured into something big when he created buymytronics.com. The idea came to him two years ago when he broke his $300 iPod. "I looked around and there wasn't any place to sell broken iPods and a light bulb went off in my head, why don't I do this on a large scale and buy broken used electronics from people," said Mosley. Now this Lahiana-Luna High School graduate buys about 500 electronic items a month. So just how well does he pay? Up to $145 for a used video iPod, up to $220 for a used Blackberry, $225 for a broken iPhone and about $250 for a used X-Box game system. And if you're not sure how much yours is worth, you can do a quick price, right on the Web site. "Put in a few fields of information and it'll spit out a price in about 20 seconds." Mosley says business is blooming, he has seen a 30% growth in the last eight months. Now moving forward, he has one goal in mind. "My vision for this business is to be the number one place to get quick cash for broken and used electronics." Other types of electronics Mosley will buy, include the Wii, Play Station, laptops ...
